IT IS WELL
As I was thinking over several things that are going on in my life, the Lord reminded me about the account of the Shunammite woman found in 2 Kings 4:8-37. This passage is one of my favorites, it teaches us so many lesson and volumes about faith. What a mighty woman of faith the Shunammite woman was, and she is still such an encouragement to me today! Thank you Lord for the reminder!
We know that the Lord is the Lord of multiplication, right? the meaning of Shunem means “double resting place”. Notice that the prophet Elisha always referred to her as the Sunammite woman, her actual name is not recorded! Very significant because he was prophesying the blessing over her. As she turned to God and trusted in Him, He supplied her with a double portion of His rest and peace.
Do you go to the Lord with child-like faith? Believing that the Word of God is your truth and it is for you? Having faith in God knowing that He loves you and you can trust and rely on Him for all areas of your life all of the time? Having the faith to believe the Word of God and not be moved by what is happening to you or around you at this time or in this season of your life? Selah! (think on that).
When the Shunammite woman’s son died she took him upstairs and laid him on the prophet’s bed. She put God in remembrance of His Word & then shut the door. To me this signifies that she intentionally shut out the doubt that was trying to torment her. She began calling things that were not as though they were. She moved in the strength of the Lord and she spoke words of faith; she said to her husband, “it is well”. She said to Elisha’s servant, Gehazi, “it is well”.
She ran as fast as she could up the mountain to find the prophet; the place where God was. She knew God had given her a son as promised through the prophet Elisha; therefore she had faith to believe that “it was well”.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that we, too, are to run to God like little children, with child-like faith. Believing and not doubting His Word, not doubting His promises and what He has already provided us. For all of God’s promises are “yea and amen”.
Today, I encourage you to run up the mountains of life decreeing that “it is well”, decreeing the Word of God and the promises of God over your life. Believing and trusting that God will take care of you and with Him you will have victory! Praise the Lord!! There are no mountains too big for our Lord. He will always meet you and give you rest.
I looked up the phrase “it is well (it shall be well)” in the Hebrew. Are you ready?! It means the following and she was decreeing these powerful, creative words over herself and the situation as she ran to God:
- completeness, soundness, welfare, peace
- completeness (in number)
- safety, soundness (in body)
- welfare, health, prosperity
- peace, quiet, tranquility, contentment
- peace, friendship
- with God especially in covenant relationship
Praise the Lord… what a wonderful example of God’s goodness, faithfulness and provision!! It is well, it is well with my soul!!
