You Are a Friend of God!
Do you consider God your friend? Or have you even thought of God as your friend?
Look at what the scripture says in
Isaiah 41:8 ~ “But you, O Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham My friend.”
In Isaiah 41:8 God calls Abraham “my friend” ~ the Hebrew word for friend here is ahab and the definition is ~ Love, an intimate relationship as husband and wife. God wants us to know how deep His love for Abraham was and He chose the Hebrew word ahab to show us. He loves us with a unconditional, overwhelming, intimate love!
Spiritually, the union between husband and wife brings two spirits together and they become as one! God chose Abraham, fellowshipped and communicated with him and Abraham by faith walked with God. God put His love into Abraham and they walked in the spirit together. I believe their relationship was intimate and strong. Abraham was so confident in his relationship with God that he questioned God and pled/interceded for mercy re: Sodom. He considered God his friend too!
As I thought on this scripture I realized that the word “friend” as we use it today has many meanings. Although we don’t intentionally think of what “type” of friend we are talking about when we use the term friend, it is very important to see the meaning in order to understand the correct revelation God is revealing to us! I looked up the Hebrew translation for “friend” in other scriptures and there are only a few where this word ahab is used for friend! Look in Proverbs 18:24 and 27:6.
You could say there are several levels of friendships; such as acquaintances, business friends, social friends, close friends and if we are fortunate we might even have an intimate friend or two in our lifetime. Even within our circle of Christian friends we have levels of friendships don’t we. When we have a close, intimate friend we can openly discuss most anything with them, we can share our inner most thoughts without the fear of being judged or condemned.
I believe that is what God wants us to see from this scripture. He calls us His friend and loves us with a deep, over whelming love! We need to learn to trust and be able to talk to Him, confide in Him without any fear of condemnation or judgment from our Daddy God!
In Genesis we see how God created Adam; put him in the garden He created and supplied him with everything he possibly needed. He spoke with Adam and spent time with him each day, they fellowshipped ~ I believe they were intimate friends.
Through Christ’s completed work on the cross we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ and have been restored back to Him as Adam was in the garden. Christ has given us everything we need and for every purpose for Kingdom life. And by faith, through Christ, we have been given everything that the Father has ~ it is ours!
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants for a servant does not know what his master is doing, but I have called you friends for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you that you love one another.”
In this scripture Jesus calls us His friends! God is LOVE ~ He put LOVE in us too! He is in us and we are in Him!!!
From the beginning, God created us to be His friend. To walk with Him, to listen and talk ~ communicate with Him, to sit with Him and to love and worship Him. Love Him as God creator of heaven and earth, love Him as your King of Kings and Lord of Lords, love Him as your healer and deliver, love Him as your comforter, your teacher, your helper and intimate friend….. and …. Receive His LOVE back to you!!
Abraham’s obedience and faith is his legacy and his legacy is our inheritance!! We are Abraham’s seed and his blessing belongs to us too!
Hallelujah!! Now you can know that you know that you are a friend of God!
