Be Encouraged ~ February 2016

FAITH BUILDER:  Genesis 22

It is always a faith builder and an encouragement to me when I read the accounts of the Old Testament saints! So much wisdom is offered to us in order for us to grow in our faith and maturity in order to live the Kingdom life, now! Today, as I am reading once again the life of Abraham, in Genesis, my spirit soars and I am so encouraged. I see his love for God; I see his faith and trust in God’s promises and his obedience to God because he does believe! God spoke to Abraham and made a covenant with him promising him a son, Isaac; and the covenant would also be established with him and his descendants as an everlasting covenant.

Several truths stand out to me as I am looking at these scriptures; Abraham’s relationship with God, his “knowing”, and his acceptance of God’s word given to him. He had much favor, growth and prosperity with God in the many years until Isaac’s birth. His life shows us and is a lesson in patience, lesson in trusting God, and being obedient; a perfect picture of FAITH at work!

In Genesis 22 is the account of how God spoke to Abraham and commanded him to take his son, Isaac, to the land of Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering!!  His only son, the son he had waited for; and now he was told to offer him as a sacrifice! I am thinking, wow, how would I react to that command? How would you?

According to scripture, He didn’t discuss his God given assignment with anyone. He didn’t check with his friends and ask them to pray to be sure that he was hearing from God! He didn’t ask God to give him additional confirmations to be sure!! Right? Abraham intimately knew his Father, intimately knew His voice and prepared for his journey! Out of obedience, Abraham left the next day and traveled for three days to the mountain God showed him.

Genesis 22:5 “And Abraham said to the young men, stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

Vs 8, “And Abraham said, my son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering”

Abraham demonstrated his faith and trust in his Father God that He (God) would accomplish all that He promised. He was willing to give up, willing to sacrifice all that he loved, his only son, to yield to and be obedient to God. Trusting and not questioning God; decreeing by faith that they both would return to the men waiting! And that God being his provider would provide the sacrificial lamb!!  Selah!! Such an inspiration! Think on these things!!

Two scriptures came to my mind: Job 22:28 “and you will decree a thing and it will be established unto you and the light will shine on your way” and Romans 4:17b “…God who gives life to the dead, calls things that are not as though they were”.

Some points and lessons for our faith walk which Holy Spirit wants us to focus on and meditate on today are:

  • Know God, know your Father, know Daddy God & purpose to develop a deep, loving relationship with Him, then you will ~
  • Accept & receive the God’s promises as yours
  • Trust in God to keep His Word. Be patient while waiting on the promise to manifest!
  • Be obedient when God speaks to you and gives you an assignment knowing all is well regardless of the circumstances ~ vs. 5
  • Boldly calling those things which are not as though they are, decree the Word, your promises ~ vs. 5, 8
  • Speak the promise out of faith knowing His love will provide the answer you need

In reading about the life of Abraham, we can see his spiritual growth and maturity. It is so encouraging to me to see how God loved and blessed him as their relationship continued through the years. Now, think about your relationship with your Daddy God, purpose to grow in your faith and trust. Purpose to be willing to give all He asks of you to move you further into your destiny.   I encourage you to read Genesis 22nd chapter and allow Holy Spirit to minister His truths again to increase your love and faith in God! Enjoy your journey!
