It Is Written!

Jesus said, “It is written”

Jesus’ life is the example we are to follow as we walk through our journey of life. As you read Matthew 4:1-11, you will see what Jesus did when faced with temptation and adversity.  As we are faced with the temptations and adversities of life we are to do this also!

It is written in Matthew 4:3-4 “Now when the tempter came to Him, he said. If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. Jesus said it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

Jesus is telling us that we should live our life according to the Word of God. And in doing so, our thoughts, our words and our conversation should line up with His Word!

The food we eat is substance for our body, but it isn’t our only substance and it isn’t our main substance. More importantly, the Word of God is our bread, our daily bread, our bread of life! The Word here is a spoken word, it is a rhema word. A rhema word is a specific word or scripture for a specific time. God spoke the worlds into existence, He spoke and it was, He said “let there be…. and it was”. And Jesus said that He didn’t say anything but what the Father told Him to say.

Jesus said in this passage, “it is written”  three times to illustrate the importance of using the power of the Word of God. Since we look to Jesus as our example, we should follow His example on how He overcame temptation and adversity. The number three (3) used in the scriptures denotes completeness or spiritual perfection.  Always take notice when Holy Spirit uses numbers to speak to us, by looking closer at the meaning we see that we can obtain completeness by speaking the Word of God! That promise alone is worth remembering!
